Creating a Custom MMC
You ll work with the MMC many times in the chapters ahead, and the CompTIA A+ certification exams expect you to know the tool fairly well Nothing beats doing it to learn how to use something, so try this! Open a blank MMC, as discussed previously, and then add some snap-ins to create a custom MMC Need some suggestions 1 2 3 4 You ve used Disk Defragmenter, so add it Since you played extensively with Disk Management, add it, too Finally, add Device Manager well, just because Now experiment with the MMC to see how useful it can be to have one custom-made!

Administrative Tools
Windows 2000 and XP have combined almost all of the snap-ins into an applet in the Control Panel called Administrative Tools Open the Control Panel and open Administrative Tools (Figure 1250) Administrative Tools is really just a folder that stores a number of premade consoles As you poke through these, you ll notice that many of the consoles share some of the same snap-ins nothing wrong with that Of the consoles in a standard Administrative Tools collection, the ones you ll spend the most time with are Computer Management, Event Viewer, Performance, and Services
