In this exercise, you will create an undo tablespace with Database Control, and then verify the configuration with SQL*Plus 1 Connect to your instance as user SYSTEM with Database Control 2 From the Server tab, in the Storage section take the Tablespaces link 3 Click Create 4 Enter UNDO2 as the tablespace name, and set the radio buttons for Locally Managed, Undo, and Read Write 5 At the bottom of the screen, click Add to specify a datafile

6 Enter UNDO2-01DBF as the File Name, leave everything else on default, and click Continue 7 On the Create Tablespace screen, click Show SQL, and study the statement used to create your undo tablespace Click Return to return to the Create Tablespace screen, and click OK to create the tablespace 8 Connect to your instance as user SYSTEM with SQL*Plus 9 Run this query, which will return one row for each tablespace in your database:

Using Barcode reader for Visual Studio .NET Control to read, scan read, scan image in .NET framework applications.
Draw Code 39 Full ASCII In None
Using Barcode drawer for Font Control to generate, create Code 39 image in Font applications.
Note that your new tablespace has contents UNDO, meaning that it can only be used for undo segments, and that retention is NOGUARANTEE 10 Run this query, which will return one row for each rollback or undo segment in your database:
select tablespace_name, segment_name, status from dba_rollback_segs;
Note that a number of undo segments have been created automatically in your new undo tablespace, but that they are all offline 11 Adjust your instance to use the new undo tablespace Use a SCOPE clause to ensure that the change will not be permanent:
alter system set undo_tablespace=undo2 scope=memory;
12 Rerun the query from Step 9 You will see that the undo segments in the new tablespace have bee brought online, and those in the previously active undo tablespace are offline
Manage Undo
INSIDE THE EXAM
Managing Undo Data
The Oracle database implements transaction atomicity and isolation and read consistency through the use of undo segments The older rollback segments can still be used (and one rollback segment will always exist, used when creating the database), but this is very bad practice Undo segments are created automatically in an undo tablespace: a tablespace that can contain no other objects The database creates undo segments on demand, attempting to match the number of segments to the number of concurrent transactions Each segment expands as necessary to accommodate its transaction As DBA, all you need do is ensure that the undo tablespace is big enough for the anticipated workload The automatic undo management mechanism will by default favor transactions over queries If the undo tablespace is undersized, transactions will continue even they have to overwrite unexpired undo, therefore risking query failure with ORA-1555 snapshot too old errors This behavior can be modified to guarantee that queries will succeed, perhaps at the risk of failing transactions Monitoring undo usage is simple through the Database Control undo advisor, or by querying the view V$UNDOSTAT
CERTIFICATION SUMMARY
Undo data is generated to enable atomic transactions, read consistency, and transaction isolation The Oracle database guarantees transactional integrity absolutely, but not necessarily read consistency If the undo system is not appropriately configured, queries may fail because a lack on undo data but if a query succeeds, it will be consistent This behavior can be modified by enabling the RETENTION GUARANTEE, though this may mean that transaction fail Undo data is stored in a undo tablespace that can contain nothing other than automatically generated and managed undo segments There may be more than one undo tablespaces in a database, but only one will be in use at any given moment; this is controlled by a dynamic instance parameter, UNDO_TABLESPACE
