By now you should recognize most of the UpdateItemjava program After the usual connectivity stuff, a PreparedStatement object is created The SQL command contains three variables: one to identify the updated bidderkey column value, one to identify the updated finalbid column value, and one to be used to search for the proper itemkey value in the table so that the proper record is updated After the PreparedStatement object is created, a while() loop is used to continually ask the user to enter new information If the user enters the word exit for the itemkey value, the while() loop is exited and the program stops After retrieving the values input by the user, the program converts the values to the appropriate data types for insertion into the Item table, assigns them to the appropriate variables for the PreparedStatement object, then executes the PreparedStatement object using the executeUpdate() method Similar to a normal Statement object, the PreparedStatement object contains both the executeUpdate() and executeQuery() methods Since this SQL command is an UPDATE command, the executeUpdate() method is used After compiling the program, enter some data into the Item table using the pgAdmin III data editor (see 4) Be sure to leave empty the winning bidder and final bid column values Run the UpdateItem program and enter a few values After entering a few valid values, try entering values for an invalid itemkey To end the program, enter exit as the next itemkey:
