At the conclusion of the payment setup process, Quicken may display a dialog asking if you want to create an asset to go with the loan. This enables you to set up an asset account for the full purchase price of the item you used the loan to buy. Click Yes to create a new account; click No if you have already created one. I discussed creating an asset account earlier in this chapter, in the section titled Creating Asset and Debt Accounts.

New enables you to create a new loan. I explained how this option works earlier in this chapter. Delete removes the currently displayed loan. If you click this button, a dialog appears, warning that you are about to delete the loan. When you click OK, Quicken removes the loan information, but keeps the debt account and all of its transactions. Choose Loan displays a menu of your current loans. Use it to choose the loan you want to display in the window. Print prints a loan payment schedule for the currently displayed loan. The printout includes all of the information in the Payment Schedule tab of the View Loans window, which is shown and discussed momentarily. How Do I provides instructions for working with the View Loans window.

Modifying Loan Information
Once you ve created a loan, you can modify it as necessary to record corrections, changes in the interest rate, or changes in payment methods. You can do all these things with buttons in the View Loans window.
Changing Loan Information
If you discover a discrepancy between the loan information in the View Loans window and information on statements or loan agreement papers, you can change the loan information in Quicken. If necessary, choose the loan account s name from the Choose Loan menu in the button bar to display the information for the loan you want to modify. Then, click the Edit Loan button. A pair of Edit Loan windows enables you to change just about any information for the loan. Modify values and select different options as desired. Click Done in the last window to save your changes. Quicken automatically makes any necessary entries to update the account.

Changing Payment Information
Occasionally, you may want to make changes to a loan s payment information. For example, suppose the real estate taxes on your property are reduced (you can always hope!) and the resulting escrow amount, which is included in the payment, changes. Or suppose you decide to switch payment method from a Scheduled Transaction to a repeating Online Payment. If necessary, choose the loan account s name from the Choose Loan menu in the button bar to display the information for the loan payment you want to modify. Then click the Edit Payment button. The Edit Loan Payment dialog, shown earlier, appears. Make changes as desired and click OK. Quicken updates the payment information with your changes.
