Working with Accounts
When you select an account, its display expands to show additional information and buttons. You can use these buttons to work with or modify an account.
Edit Details The Edit Details button displays the General Information tab of
the Account Details dialog for the account. As shown next, this dialog includes basic information about the account that you can view or edit. The Online Services tab, when available, tells you whether online services are available for the account and whether they are activated. It also lets you deactivate online services. (I tell you more about online account services in s 6 and 11.)
Go To Register The Go To Register button opens the Transactions subtab for
the account. I explain how to use the various types of account registers to enter and work with transactions throughout this book. (You can also open an

account s Transactions subtab by double-clicking its name in the Account List window or by clicking it in the Accounts panel.)
Delete Account The Delete Account button enables you to delete the account.
It displays a dialog you can use to confirm that you want to delete the account. You must type yes into the dialog and click OK to delete the account. Remember that when you delete an account, you permanently remove all of its transactions from your Quicken data file. To get the account out of sight without actually deleting it and its data, consider hiding it instead. I explain how to do this next.
Hide This Account In Quicken This check box, when turned on, prevents the
account from being displayed in lists, menus, and reports. This disables the two check boxes beneath it and removes the account from view in any list in which it would appear, except the Account List window. You may want to use this feature to remove accounts you no longer use or need to see without removing the transactions they contain. Keep in mind that you cannot use a hidden account in a transaction; to do so, you must first unhide the account by turning off this check box for it.
Hide This Account In Account Bar To remove an account from the Accounts
panel (which was formerly known as the Account Bar), turn on this check box. Although the account remains visible in other lists and menus where it would normally appear, it no longer appears in the Accounts panel. You may want to use this feature to keep the Accounts panel short by excluding accounts you seldom access.
Don t Include This Account In Net Worth Total To exclude an account s balance from subtotal and total calculations, as well as the net worth displayed in the Accounts panel, turn on this check box. This displays the balance for the account in gray in the Accounts panel and omits the balance from any totals calculated in Quicken. Activate Downloads or Activate Bill Pay These two options, which appear as
links, when available, display the Account Setup dialog, which you can use to enable online account access features for the account. This option is available only for certain types of accounts and certain financial institutions. I explain how to use this dialog in s 6 and 11.
