If you select this option, when you click Next, the dialog explains what to do when you need to connect to the Internet. Use My Computer s Internet Connection Settings To Establish A Connection When This Application Accesses The Internet. This option tells Quicken to use your active Internet connection profile to connect to the Internet from within Quicken. I Do Not Have A Way To Connect To The Internet. Please Give Me More Information On Setting Up An Internet Account. A good way to test your Internet connection is to visit Quicken.com, the official Quicken Web site. This site offers information about Intuit products, as well as special features for registered Quicken users. I tell you more about Quicken.com later in this chapter and throughout this book. For now, connect to it to make sure your Internet connection works. Choose Online | Quicken On The Web | Quicken.com, or just click the Quicken.com button in the toolbar. Quicken attempts to connect to the Internet using the settings in the Internet Connection Setup dialog. What you see during the connection process will vary depending on your ISP. If you use an online service such as America Online, the service s access software may start automatically to make the connection. You may be prompted to enter a username or password. Other dialogs may appear. It may be necessary to switch from connection software back to Quicken by clicking the Quicken button on the Windows task bar. When the connection is complete, Quicken requests the Quicken.com home page. It appears in a Quicken Internet window (see Figure 4-1). If you were already connected to the Internet when you accessed one of Quicken s online features, or if you have a direct connection to the Internet, you won t see the connection happening. Instead, the Quicken.com page will simply appear in a Quicken Internet window (see Figure 4-1).

Sometimes even the tiniest problems can prevent you from successfully connecting and exchanging data. In this section, I provide some troubleshooting advice to help you with connection problems you may experience. Check this section before you start pulling out your hair and cursing the day computers were invented.
