manage your finances right within mouse pointer reach. You never have to dig through multiple dialogs and menus to get to the commands you need most. In this section, I tell you about the components of the Quicken interface and explain how you can use them to make your work with Quicken easy.
The Main Window
The main Quicken window gives you access to most of Quicken s features and your stored information. It s split into three parts: Tabs, Accounts Panel, and Side Panel. Let s take a look at each.
Tabs
Tabs occupy the main part of the Quicken program window. Some tabs, such as the Banking tab (see Figure 1-1) and Investing tab, provide information about your financial status, as well as links and buttons for accessing Quicken features Other tabs, such as the Setup tab (Figure 1-2), enable you to view and customize Quicken settings for your financial situation.

Banking provides information about your cash, bank, and credit card accounts, as well as alerts, scheduled transactions, and savings plan details. (This part of Quicken was referred to as the Cash Flow Center in previous versions of Quicken.) I discuss the Banking tab and its options in detail in Part Two of this book. Investing provides information about your investment accounts and individual investments. I cover investing and the Investing tab in Part Three. Net Worth provides information about asset and debt accounts, including your home, car, related loans, and auto expenses. (This part of Quicken was referred to as the Property & Debt Center in previous versions of Quicken.) I discuss the Net Worth tab and related features in Part Four. Planning gives you access to Quicken s financial planners, as well as the assumptions you need to set up to use the planners effectively. I discuss Quicken s financial planners and the Planning tab in Part Five. Tax provides information related to your taxes, including projected taxes, a tax calendar, and your year-to-date income and tax-related expenses. I cover Quicken s tax features and the Tax tab in Part Six.
