view s window (shown next) displays two spending graphs for the month: Spending by Category and Spending by Payee. You can click buttons at the bottom of each graph to display a full graph, customize the graph, or access the Savings Plan feature of Quicken. I explain how to work with report and graph windows and customize graphs later in this chapter. I tell you about the Savings Plan view of the Banking tab next.

Savings Plan View
Quicken s Savings Plan view, which is shown in Figure 9-2, is like a live budget where you can easily see income and spending based on payee and category. You can use this feature to help you take control of your spending and to save money.

9 / Examining Your Banking Activity
Expected Income Quicken automatically calculates your expected monthly income based on scheduled paychecks and other income. You can change this amount by clicking the Edit button near the top of the view and entering a new value in the Set Expected Income dialog that appears (shown here). Credit Card Debt and Savings You can indicate how much you plan to allocate to your credit card debt and savings by entering values in the Allocation box beside each item. (You may have to click the sign beside a type heading to display an item as shown in Figure 9-2.) If you want to save for a specific purpose, you can click the Create New Savings Target button and use the Create New Savings Target dialog (shown here) to enter a name and amount to save. Scheduled Bills
Quicken lists your scheduled bills and other transactions in the Scheduled Bills area so you know what expenses to expect for the month. You can adjust the allocation for a payee by entering a different value in the Allocation column box beside it. You can display the Scheduled Bills & Deposits window, which I discuss in detail in 7, by clicking the Manage My Bills button at the bottom of the Scheduled Bills list.
Categorized Spending Quicken also displays expenses by category, showing allocated and actual amounts graphically. This makes it easy to see if you ve already spent more for a category than you ve allocated for it. You can change a category s allocation by entering a new value in the Allocation box beside it. To change the list of categories that appears in the view, click the Choose Categories
