Working with Securities
This chapter talks a lot about securities. But exactly what are they In Quicken, a security is a single investment that has a share price. Examples of securities include stock shares for a specific company, bonds for a specific company, and mutual funds offered by investment firms. Normally, when you own a security, you own a certain number of shares. To calculate the total value of the security, you d multiply the number of shares you own by the most recent per-share price. This part of the chapter explains how you can use the Security List, Add Security To Quicken, Edit Security Details, Security Type List, Investing Goal List, and Security Detail View windows to view, add, and work with securities.
Security List
The Security List window (see Figure 10-5) simply lists the securities in Quicken s data file. You can use this window to add, edit, delete, or hide securities, including watch list securities securities you don t own but want to monitor. To open this window, choose Investing | Security List or press CTRL-Y.
