When building an application, you might find that instead of offering the user freeform data entry for some fields, it makes more sense to offer the user a list of valid values. For example, you might decide the valid values for income level should be presented in a drop-down list, or that a list of product codes should be displayed in a filterable dialog. As well as being a useful feature for the end user, it may also help protect your application from invalid data values. ADF Business Components allows you to associate a list of values with a view object attribute. When that view object attribute is then bound to an ADF Faces page, it will be displayed with an appropriate UI component to present the list of valid values.

ANSI/AIM Code 39 Creation In Java
Using Barcode generator for Java Control to generate, create USS Code 39 image in Java applications.
The first step is to define the list of possible values. To do this, you need to use an existing view object or create a new view object. Create a view object, ValidIncomeLevelView, just as you did with MaritalStatusView, and define the static strings available for income level. Alternatively, you could create this new view object based on a read-only select statement such as

At this point, it really doesn t matter which method you choose, so long as ValidIncomeLevelView is a view object that defines the list of possible values.

You now need to define that this list of values is associated with an attribute. Open the view object editor for CustomersView, select the Attributes tab, select the attribute IncomeLevel, and click the green plus sign next to List of Values:IncomeLevel. This opens the Create List of Values dialog. By default, the name of this list of values is the attribute name prefixed with LOV_.
This first thing you have to do is define where the list of values is coming from. Click the green plus sign next to List Data Source and, from Available View Objects, select ValidIncomeLevelView and move it to View Accessors. The next step is to define which attribute from ValidIncomeLevelView is to be returned from the list. For List Attribute choose IncomeLevel. For List Return Values ensure that IncomeLevel is being returned into the correct attribute, which should be easy because they have the same name in this case.
Defining UI Hints for a Model Driven List of Values
Having defined the source for the list and the attribute mapping, you can now specify the default component used when the attribute is rendered on a UI page. There are a number of options available here:
8:
Choice List Combo Box Combo Box with List of Values Input Text with List of Values List Box Radio Group
More View Object Features
For LOV_IncomeLevel, set Default List Type as Choice List. You would also set Display Attributes, which allows you to define which attributes of the underlying list of values should appear in the choice list. Given there is only one attribute, IncomeLevel, select that.
Quick Start Guide to Oracle Fusion Development
As always, you can use the ADF Business Component Browser to test the changes you have made. Run the application module and confirm that IncomeLevel now appears with a list of valid values.
TIp You might want to add some different model driven lists of values to your application now. For example, OrderItemsView has an attribute ProductId. Add a model driven list of values to show a list of products from ProductInformationView displayed as an input text field with a list of values. You can decide for yourself which attributes you want to display in the list of values and whether to include a search capability in the list of values.
