From the initial ABAP dictionary screen, select the name of the table and click on the Change or Display button. Note: when creating a new append structure for a table, you are not directly modifying the table definition. So, to create append structures you do not need to modify the table with the Change option; it's enough to enter the transaction with Display and then click the Append structures button. You do not need an SSCR registration number to make a repair, because it is not a repair. The system displays the Dictionary: Table / Structure: Change Fields or the Display Fields screen. At this screen, select the Append structures option. This displays a dialog box for assigning a name to the append structure. By default, it proposes the name ZA<table name>. Leave the proposed name as it is or write over it with your own name and click on the Continue button. On the next screen, the system displays the same screen as if you were creating a normal table or structure; that is, you have to enter a short description and then fill up the needed new fields with the data elements. Once new fields are defined for the append structure, you have to save it. The system requests a new change request number as usual when performing modifications. Then you have to activate the new structure, which will force a new table adjustment to the database level. Once the append structure is activated (partially active), then you have to activate the table to which it belongs. The system displays a log with the system activation which adjusts the table with the new append structure. Once the conversion is finished, the append structure appears in a new field in the table as APPEND. Figure 8 9 shows this screen.

The aim of defining substructures is to save time when working with tables or structure definitions. It is like an include statement in standard programming languages (INCLUDE in C or Pascal; COPY in COBOL, and so on). When making a change to a substructure, all the tables, structures, or other substructures which include the modified substructure are also changed automatically. The substructures can be nested (can include other substructures) up to nine nesting levels. To include substructures, just insert a new field in the table, and then from the main menu select Extras Substructures Insert substructures. The system displays a dialog box for entering the table name to be included as substructure as well as a prefix input field which allows you to distinguish fields by using this suffix. The table is included as a substructure. You can then perform several operations with the substructure from the Extras Substructures menu, such as exploding the fields on one substructure or on all. When you include a table as substructure, you actually include the complete table. If you wish to include only some fields, then you have to select Extras Substructures Insert subst. fields, but in this case, these new fields become normal table fields which are not adjusted according to the substructure modifications.
