As you can see in Fig. 8 25, under the Processing type box, there are three options for performing the adjustments: Direct. Changes and adjustments are performed online immediately. Background. The screen will show a new push button in the application toolbar, Unschedule, and a message indicating Mass processing request: Adjust. The request is not yet assigned to a job, next to which you get the Display rest push button. Figure 8 26 shows how the screen might look.

The adjustment and conversion process for transparent tables is based on six steps: The program is generated, and a lock is set for the table to be converted. The table is renamed in the database as a temporary table using the format QCM<table_name>. The revised version of the table is activated, which means the table is created in the database as a new table. The data must be reloaded; this is done from the temporary table QCM<table_name>. Secondary indexes, if any, are re created at database level. The lock entry set for the table in the beginning is removed in order to allow users and R/3 processes to access the table. The conversion process is traced in the restart log file because for certain reasons this process can go wrong. In these cases, the lock entry set for the table being converted is not released and the table remains locked so that nobody trying to access it will be permitted to do so. In order to release the table, the conversion process must be restarted; this can be done after correcting the error that caused the conversion termination. Steps for restarting are: From the database utility initial screen, enter the table name and choose edit. Choose Restart log. Find out the cause of the error and apply the appropriate corrections. Continue the conversion with the option Restart adjustment.
