There are two types of search help structures, depending on whether the search helps are elementary or collective. There are basically three aspects that define the behavior and structure of an elementary search help: the selection method, the parameters, and the online behavior. The selection method describes the way data is obtained from the hit list. Example: the USTU Collective Search Help When the hit list data comes from a table that is complemented by a text table, the definition of the data source for the hit list must include both the table and the associated text table. In release 4.0 you can find several standard search helps. This section explains the structure and behavior of the search help USTU, from the university examples included in the R/3 system. To access this search help, from the initial ABAP dictionary screen, enter USTU as the object name, select the Search Help radio button, and click on the Display button. USTU is a collective search help made up of four elementary search helps (USTUA, USTUB, USTUC, and USTUD), which have been assigned hot keys from A to D. This can be seen by clicking on the Search help button. Figure 8 30 shows this screen.

In Fig. 8 31 you can see that USTUA has a single export parameter, EUNR, with the data element UIMMNR, which is the matriculation number and which is equivalent to the data element UPERSN (because both are based on the same domain, UPENUM). The other elementary search helps (USTUB, USTUC, and USTUD) from the search help USTU have the same export parameter, EUNR. To test how the search help works, from the transaction SA38 (Reporting) or SE38 run the program UPRUFEDI. Figure 8 32 shows this initial screen.
