To start the installation of iTunes, double-click on the iTunes setup file (it could be called iTunesSetup.exe or iTunes64Setup.exe) in the Downloads pop-up window, as shown in Figure 26 51.

The iTunes Installation Screens for a Windows PC
Now that you have successfully downloaded and started the installation file, you should see a screen similar to the one shown in Figure 26 52. This screen will have a main heading that says something like, Welcome to the iTunes Installer. Follow these steps to complete the installation process.

Click the Next> button and follow the steps to get iTunes installed. If you see an error message about 32-bit or 64-bit versions, as shown below, please read the caution that follows because you may want to download another version of iTunes.
CAUTION: If you see a 64-bit warning message similar to this one, then please click the No button and return to the Apple site to download the 64-bit edition of iTunes better suited for your computer. You can grab the file at this URL: www.itunes.com/download.

If you agree with the terms, click the radio button next to I accept the terms in the license agreement and click the Next> button.

Figure 26 54 is the final selection screen before the installation starts. Usually you can leave all the defaults alone, unless you have a specific reason to change them. Click the Install button to start the installation.
NOTE: If you have Microsoft Outlook or another e-mail program running, you will be asked to stop it or re-start it after the installation completes. We recommend stopping Outlook before installing iTunes.
Once you have successfully installed iTunes, you will see a screen similar to the one shown in Figure 26 55. If you want to start up iTunes automatically, leave the box checked (again, see Figure 26 55).

Click the Finish button to close the installer.

iTunes Installation Screens for a Mac
Now that you have successfully downloaded and started the installation file on your Mac, you should see a screen similar to the one shown in Figure 26 56. You can scroll down to check out what s new in the latest version of iTunes, as well as to see the system requirements (see Figure 26 58). Click Continue to move on.
