You can use WebSphere Developer for zSeries, which is a workstation-based environment for writing and testing code, to add the MQI commands to existing applications.
MQ with CICS/IMS Bridge
Similar to the previous option, this point-to-point integration option involves a modern application connecting to a CICS or IMS COBOL application through MQ messaging. In this case, you use a bridge between the MQ server/client and the CICS or IMS application. The bridge eliminates the need for extensive changes to the CICS or IMS applications using MQI calls; therefore, you might consider this option if you want to avoid changing code on the mainframe. Figure 9.2 shows a high-level conceptual diagram of this option for a CICS application. For an IMS application, you must install an additional Open Transaction Manager Access (OTMA) component on the mainframe in front of the IMS application. The OTMA talks to the MQ server/client through the bridge, as shown in Figure 9.3. The CICS Bridge, which comes with CICS TS version 1.2, provides access to a large number of existing CICS applications which were written for 3270 terminals input and outputs. The heart of this bridge is a bridge exit program, which handles commands from existing 3270-based applications. The primary advantages of using the bridge are as follows:

You do not have to deal with the complexities of the 3270 data stream. It provides a Business Mapping Service (BMS) to decode the complex 3270 data stream into a symbolic map structure that the program uses. BMS loads a map set load module to obtain the mapping instructions. You only need to create a map set. You can maintain a pseudo-conversational state by chaining together a number of CICS transactions.
An alternative approach is the conversational model, in which the original message may not contain all the data to run the transaction. If the transaction issues a request that cannot be answered by any of the vectors in the original message, a message is put into a reply-to queue requesting more data. The client application gets this message and puts a new message back in the queue to satisfy the request. Here is a brief discussion of the various aspects of this approach of integrating a mainframe application to help you decide whether this option is suitable for your situation.
Work Required This option requires only a minimal amount of coding, compiling, and linking on the mainframe side. For the CICS Bridge, you need to create a map set for each CICS application. You must also configure the queues and managers. Technology Constraints z/OS is required on the mainframe. For the CICS Bridge, you need CICS version 1.2 or higher.
