If you are not sure where to get filters from, ask in a good photographic suppliers or stage lighting shop for colored gelatin. If this does not work, you could always use the clear colored plastic that some sweets are wrapped in, carefully joined with sticky tape ensuring that the joins are good and no additional light penetrates.
You will need to attach a colored gelatin filter to the top of three of the boxes, so that the only light which reaches the cress seeds is colored. Now, compare the growth of the cress seeds. However, this time, we are going to have a control experiment, and three other boxes where the sunlight they receive is filtered to red, green, and blue. Take four boxes. Fill the bottom of each one with a layer of 2 cm of cottonwool. Carefully pick out 20 cress seeds from the packet for each box, and water them evenly with 5 ml (5 cm3) of water.
