On the left side, the Master List displays all sources you have ever used, including the current document. On the right side, the Current List displays only sources for the current document. All sources are listed in alphabetical order. To locate a specific source, you can use the Search boxes to sort by author, title, year, or citation tag. You can quickly select sources from your Master List and copy them to the Current List so you have access to them for the current document. At any time, you can update information for your sources. You can make the edits in the Source Manager, or you can select a citation or placeholder in the document and make the edits there. Any changes you make in the citation are immediately reflected in the Source Manager, and vice versa. To complete the edits in the Source Manager, select the source in either the Master List or the Current List, and click the Edit button. To complete the edits directly in the citation or placeholder, select the citation in the document. The Master List is a database of information about sources, and you can easily share that information with others. If you have access to a network, you can use the Browse button to locate and access a different Master List. Then, you can copy sources from that list to your Current List. You can share your Master List by e-mailing it to a colleague. The sources are saved as XML, and the documentation styles are saved as XSLTs. To locate the Master List on your computer, search for the Bibliography subfolder. The path may look something like this: Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\Microsoft\Bibliography. You simply indicate the style you want and you click a button to create the bibliography. Before you create the bibliography, though, make sure you have replaced all placeholders with a proper citation. If you inserted a placeholder for a citation, the source will not appear in the bibliography. However, if you later replace the placeholder with source information, the bibliography will be automatically updated, and the new source will be added to the bibliography. To create a bibliography: 1. Position the insertion point where you want to insert the bibliography. 2. Do one of the following: a. Click the Bibliography button in the Citations & Bibliography group on the References tab and then choose one of the built-in styles in the drop-down menu. b. Click the Bibliography button in the Citations & Bibliography group on the References tab. Select Insert Bibliography at the bottom of the menu. You will need to add a heading, and you cannot automatically update the bibliography. Word creates the Bibliography page and the Works Cited page based on the sources that appear in the Current List of the Source Manager. All of the sources in the Current List of resources are included, even if all the sources were not cited in the document. Therefore, it is important that you verify the Current List of resources before you create the bibliography.
