4. In the next step of the wizard, it is very important that you clear the alternate access textbox it must be totally blank or your forms won t be rendered properly by SharePoint. With the field blank, click Next. 5. If you get a warning message about users not being able to access the form from this location, ignore it by clicking OK. Our users will be accessing the form from SharePoint. If you don t get this message box, you didn t set your security to Domain. Shame on you. 6. In the next step of the wizard, click Publish. 7. The final step of the wizard should tell us that our form was successfully published. Keep both checkboxes unselected and click Close. Our initiation form is now published and ready to go. Before we close it, however, we re going to take one more step to generate some files we ll need while writing our code: 1. Click File Save As Source Files. 2. Select our solution folder in the dialog box that pops up. 3. Click OK. That s it. If you look in your solution folder, you should see five new files: manifest.xsf myschema.xsd sampledata.xml template.xml view1.xsl From all of these, we really only need the myschema.xsd file, but the others are nice to have. Regardless of your form name, data source name, InfoPath filename, etc., the saved schema file is always called myschema.xsd. We ll make use of the XSD file in a few minutes. So that we don t get it confused with the schema from our task form which we re building next close your form in InfoPath and then rename myschema.xsd to InitFormSchema.xsd. Initiation form built and published check. It s time to build the task form. Building the Task Form The task form is not going to be very different from the initiation form. You can repeat most of the same process from earlier. I ll walk you through it again but in less detail this time. If you have questions, refer to the previous pages. Create a new form in InfoPath and add controls and label text so that it looks like Figure 7-9.

Figure 7-9. The Design view of our Task Edit form in InfoPath The Task Instructions and Comments fields are set up similar to the two textboxes we set up on the initiation form. The only differences are that these two are set to be multiline fields and the Instructions field is set up to be read-only. The Task Instructions textbox should have a field name of taskinstruction, the Comments textbox should have a field name of taskcomments, and the Task Complete checkbox should have a field name of taskcompleted. Set up the Submit button the same as we did on the initiation form earlier. Make sure that the rules for the button are set up the same, too. There is one unique step for the task form that is not required for any other type of form. When SharePoint is configured to display a task form, it needs a mechanism to pass values from the current task to the form in order to be displayed. This is necessary because of the split nature of tasks between SharePoint and Workflow. While the association and initiation forms are only used by the workflow, this is not true with task forms. Task forms exist as part of SharePoint and can be modified directly within SharePoint adding a column, for example, through SharePoint for one particular task list; worse still would be the deletion of an existing column. If that task form was passed into a workflow, the workflow would not know how to handle the extra, or missing, column. This could cause all kinds of problems. Instead, Microsoft opted to just pass in the task data as XML. The workflow can parse and deal with any data now because it is not tied to a fixed schema.
