UPC-A data character set
UPC-A barcode can encode numeric data from 0 through 9.
A standard UPC-A bar code are grouped by four areas: a number system, a menufacturer code, a product code and a check digit.
How many digits is UPC-A
Each standard UPC-A barcode totally includes 12 digits (0 through 9). The first 11 digits are data message, and followed by a check digit.
UPC-A may also includes a supplemented barcode with 2 digits or 5 digits.

UPC-A check digit in Excel
The UPC-A checksum digit is based on a modulo 10 calculation based on the weighted sum of the values of each of the digits in the number system, manufacturer code, and product code.
Using Excel Barcode Generator add-in freeware, you do not need input the last check digit. The barcode software will automatically calculate the UPC-A check digit for you.
If your provided UPC-A data includes the 12th digit, the barcode software will ignore it, and calculate the checksum digit based on your first 11 digits.

Basic Settings
- Barcode Type: choose "UPC-A" for UPC-A barcode, "UPC-A +2", or "UPC-A +5" for UPC-A barcode with 2-digit or 5-digit supplemented data.
- Data: UPC-A barcode encoding data. The valid UPC-A data formats is 11 or 12 digits (0-9).
If UPC-A barcode includes supplemented barcode, add "+" with supplemented data.
For example, UPC-A with 2-digit supplemented data "12345678901+12".

- Bar height: (In Supplement data under tab "1D Barcode" ) This is a multiplicator of the height of the bar module; The default is 0.8 (80% of Y - bar module height).
- Bar space (in px): The space between the UPC-A bar module and the supplement bar. Default is 15 pixel.

How to convert UPC code to barcode in Excel?

- Open an existing Excel documen to insert UPC-A barcodes.
- Go to Excel app toolbar Add-ins, click button Create Barcode from commands group "OnBarcode". Now you can find the Barcode Settings pane open on the right side of the Excel document.

In Excel sheet, select cell C4, then change Barcode Type to UPC-A, and click button Generate
to insert a UPC-A barcode on the selected cell.
You can find a new UPC-A barcode printed on the selected cell "C4".
- Here we will adjust the UPC barcode image width and height.
Resize the the UPC-A barcode to the same width and height as cell "C4".
Click the image again to make sure that the barcode settings Image Width and Image Height have updated the
adjusted image size.
Click button Update. Now the resized UPC-A barcode has been printed on the cell "C4".
- Last step, we will link the UPC barcode data message to cell B4, and any numbers change on "B4", the UPC barcode will be re-generated by one click.
Select the barcode image on "C4", click button Link To Cell
Select the cell B4 which includes the UPC numbers, click button Update
- Now you will find tha the UPC barcode on "C4" is using the UPC numbers from cell "B4".
