This stored procedure function defines two input arguments of int4 data type, and one output argument, also of int4 data type The DECLARE section also declares an additional variable, multiplier, and assigns it a default value of 3 The actual code section performs a simple assignment, assigning a simple mathematical equation using the variables to the variable result Since this variable was identified as the OUT argument, this is the value the function returns Remember, you could just as easily use the RETURN keyword to return this value After creating a stored procedure function, you most likely want to share it with other database users You must use the GRANT SQL command and grant the EXECUTE privilege to Group or Login Roles before other users can use the new stored procedure function Notice that in this example I entered each line of the program one at a time directly at the psql command prompt Any typing mistakes would have ruined the entire function, and I would have had to start entering the function from the start That is not a good thing if you are working with a 100-line function (unless you are an impeccable typist)
