Quicken 2009 The Official Guide
Working with Existing Transactions
So far, this chapter has concentrated on entering transactions. What do you do when you need to modify a transaction you already recorded That s what this section is all about.
Searching for Transactions
Quicken includes four commands to help you locate and work with transactions:
Find enables you to search for transactions in the active account based on any field. Find Next searches for transactions matching the previously entered Find criteria. Find/Replace enables you to find transactions based on any field and replace any field of the found transactions. Recategorize enables you to find transactions for a specific category and replace the category.
The following sections take a closer look at each of these commands. They also explain how you can use the new Find Payment or Deposit field on the toolbar to find transactions quickly.
Using the Find and Find Next Commands
To use the Find command, begin by opening the account register or Write Checks window for the account that you want to search. Then choose Edit | Find & Replace | Find, click the Find button on the window s button bar, or press CTRL-F. The Quicken Find dialog, which is illustrated here, appears. Start by choosing an option from the Search drop-down list, which includes all register fields for a transaction. Then choose a Match If option to indicate how the search criteria should be matched. Enter the search criteria in the Find box. If you enter a space in the Find box, Quicken searches for entries for which the Search field is blank; this is a great way to find uncategorized transactions. To search backward (relative to the currently selected transaction), turn on the Search Backwards check box.
5 / Recording Bank and Credit Card Transactions
After setting up the search, if you click the Find button, Quicken selects the first match found in the window. You can then click the Find button again to find the next match. If you click the Find All button, Quicken displays the Search Results window, which lists all the matches it found. You can double-click a match to view it in the account register window. The Find Next command uses the criteria set up in the Quicken Find dialog, which Quicken remembers throughout your Quicken session. Later, to conduct the same search, you can choose Edit | Find & Replace | Find Next or press SHIFT-CTRL-F.
