Back in 8 you learned that view criteria could be used to set up filter conditions that could be exposed to the user in the form of a query panel. This would allow the user to quickly select, apply, or customize a filter for data being viewed on a JSF page. Each view criteria defined is visible in the Data Controls panel under Named Criteria. There is also an addition filter All Queriable Attributes. This is a pseudo view criteria that enables you to create a query panel that lets the end user query on any of the attributes of the underlying business service.

As you might expect, you can drag and drop a view criteria from the Data Controls panel directly onto a page, whereupon JDeveloper will display a menu indicating how that information can be displayed. Let s assume that on the customers page created earlier, you now want to add a query panel to allow the end user to filter the customers in the table.

TIp You might find it easier to drop onto the Structure window rather than the visual editor if you are trying to position the query panel at a specific point. Depending on where you place the query panel, you might find that the Table component no longer sizes correctly. If this happens, it might be because you now have two child panels, the query panel and the table or Panel Collection, inside a parent container that would normally only size its first child. If this is the case, you may want to experiment by inserting other layout containers, or try setting StyleClass to AFStretchWidth on the table or Panel Collection.

You should now have a query panel on your page. The query panel is automatically bound to the business service so that when a query condition is selected, it is applied to the appropriate business service. However, the query panel needs to know which UI component needs to be updated when a query is executed.
Quick Start Guide to Oracle Fusion Development
To enable the query panel to determine this, select the query component and, in the Property Inspector, find the property ResultComponentId. Using the property menu, accessed by clicking the drop-down arrow to the right of the field, select edit. The Edit Property ResultComponentId dialog shows all the UI components within the page. Navigate to the Table component, select it, and click OK. This defines that this table is associated with the query panel.
You can now run and test the search functionality by selecting a view criteria from the Saved Search list and clicking Search.

NOTe The features of the query panel are controlled from properties on the component and also the UI Hints set up on the view criteria.
Summary
Having created some sample pages, you now have the core skills to create data-bound ADF Faces pages for your application. You should now know that: You can drag and drop from the Data Controls panel to create different pages including a table and form layout. Dragging and dropping from the Data Controls panel creates the UI component and the binding, and also references the binding from the UI component. An ADF Faces Table component has built-in features such as row selection, filtering, sorting, column stretching, and repositioning. A Panel Collection is a useful parent container for a table as it contains facets for toolbars, menus, and a status bar. A data collection can be rendered as a read-only or editable form. A data collection can be rendered in a master detail layout. View criteria can be used to create a query panel.
Now that you can create data-bound pages, you need to understand how to link these pages together to provide the page flow for your application. The next chapter explains how task flows are used to define the flow of pages and business actions within your application.
