Command Mode sapdba This is a brief introduction to those commands. The full reference and documentation for these commands can be found in the SAP online library. oratt1>sapdba p <path/profile> The p option can be used to specify a sapdba initialization profile different than the standard init<sid>.sap profile (for example: sapdba p /oracle/TT1/dbs/myprofile). If the alternative profile file does not contain all the values, sapdba uses standard default values. oratt1>sapdba e <number of extent> The e option sets the default value for the number of extents when performing extent checks with sapdba. Options u, l, U, p, and e will display the sapdba initial menu. However, when you call sapdba with one of the following command options, the sapdba initial menu will not be displayed: oratt1>sapdba h This is the help option. It displays a summary overview of the sapdba command options. oratt1>sapdba check Generates a log file giving extensive overview information about the database structure. The log is left in the sapcheck directory under the Oracle home directory. This check might last several minutes. You can submit it in the background. In fact, it is recommended that you regularly daily or every other day submit this check function so as to get into a single report the current statistics of the database system. oratt1>sapdba analyze <tablespaces\tables> This option is used when reorganizations are pending for checking the space situation of the tablespace specified and when creating current statistics for the cost based optimizer using sapdba analyze DBSTATCO. The <tablespaces> parameter admits the Oracle percent sign placeholder for indicating several tablespaces, as well as entering individual tablespaces separated by commas. This option can be a lengthy procedure, perhaps even lasting several hours depending on the tablespace analyzed. So use it with care and refer to the current SAPnet notes and the SAP documentation before performing analysis. The analyze option admits several other optional parameters. oratt1>sapdba checkopt <tablespace(s)\table\key_word> This command option checks whether a table(s) has missing or obsolete statistics to be used by the database optimizer and update table DBSTATC (Control Table for Optimizer Statistics). Initially, requirements table DBSTATC contains the most critical 430 tables with information about its requirement flag, method (E: Estimate; C: Compute), and accuracy. This table should not be too large. The results of this check can be: Insertion in table DBSTATC if: Statistics already exist and change is greater than threshold The method has changed Marking with a requirement flag when: The current number of records is less than 200,000 and percentage change is greater than threshold, or The current number of records exceeds 200,000 and is less than table_record_old, and absolute change is greater than threshold, or The current number of records exceeds 200,000 and table_record_old, and change is over 100% Removal from table DBSTATC if the TOBDO date is older than 30 days, it is an optimizer table, no customer flag is set, and Active = A oratt1> sapdba next <tablespaces> Can be used to modify the NEXT storage parameter. oratt1> sapdba startup Performs a normal database startup. oratt1> sapdba startup_dba Starts the database in restricted mode (DBA mode). 524

Configuring sapdba: The Initialization Profile init<sid>.dba oratt1> sapdba shutdown Performs a normal shutdown of the database. oratt1> sapdba shutdown_abort Stops the database using the shutdown abort option. Refer to the previous section on starting and stopping the database. oratt1> sapdba check_db_open Checks if the database is already started. oratt1> sapdba cleanup Deletes the log files according to the expiration values defined in the sapdba profile. oratt1> sapdba r <path/timestamp> Starts a database reorganization using the restart scripts previously generated. It should only be used when submitting the reorganization in the background. oratt1> sapdba export <tablespaces/table> You can use this option to export the objects specified (a tablespace, a set of tablespaces, or a single table). By default, the export is performed to/dev/null, which means that it does not generate an export dump. This procedure is useful for testing the tablespace for corrupt data blocks. When using sapdba with commands, the program returns status codes that you can check in your scripts with the usual $status variable. Possible codes are as follows: 0 Operation successfully finished 1 General error 2 Operation could not be started 3 The log file could not be opened 4 Wrong environment 5 sapdba could not determine which Oracle version is installed When you start the sapdba program with any of the command options that do not display the initial menu, instead of specifying the password directly, you can specify it by means of a data file that is passed onto the command. This way, the password will not appear in the operating system process list (command ps). For example, oratt1> sapdba check l system < /oracle/home/mypass where the file /oracle/home/mypass contains the password.
